For the second year in a row, AFIT teams showed off their creativity and innovation during the Team Pride Contest. Switching to a virtual format for the 2020 Summer Institute didn’t stop our members from raising the bar and pulling out all the stops. Here are this year’s winners:
Best Virtual Background:
Washtenaw Community College
The Washtenaw Community College team delivered BIG on humor with a vintage, socially-not-distant team photo as their virtual background. (Bonus points for the person tasked with cutting out their team members’ heads and Photoshopping them onto those bodies!)

Best Team Pride:
Arizona Western College
The Arizona Western College team had FUN during Summer Institute, and their passion and pride came through in everything they did—from a custom Brady-Bunch-inspired virtual background to emoji signs to express their feelings to a decked out meeting room complete with a photo wall documenting how they embraced pandemic-related disruption.

Teams that Brought the Theme to Life:
Western Iowa Tech & Aims Community College
The Western Iowa Tech team created a powerful video that showcased life before the pandemic and how their community came together to support one another during this time of unprecedented disruption.
The Aims Community College team created a roller coaster graphic to represent “embracing disruption,” and they creatively incorporated it into everything—from matching team shirts to meeting room signage to their virtual background.
• • •
Macomb Community College
In celebration of AFIT’s 30th Anniversary, the Macomb Community College team created a beautiful retrospective video of the past 30 years that showcased the College’s history of innovation, transformation, and growth.

Best in Show:
Western Technical College
The Western Technical College team pulled out all the stops in not one but ALL FOUR contest categories. They had a custom virtual background with an “Embracing Disruption” logo that acknowledged not only the pandemic and face masks but also the severely-overshadowed murder hornet. This logo also made its way onto their matching shirts to show off their team pride. Their “Phat 90s Flashback” showcased the bold fashions (and even bolder hairstyles) their team members were rocking 30 years ago. And they embraced the disruption caused by social distancing guidelines by sending each of their team members care packages and lunch deliveries during the Virtual Summer Institute to foster a sense of togetherness.
The winning teams received Barnes & Noble gift cards so they can continue their learning. Thanks to everyone who participated in this year’s Team Pride Contest, and congratulations to our winners!
