Dr. Cheek assumed the presidency at SCTCC in March 2018. Prior to that, she served at Sinclair Community College in Dayton, Ohio since 2006, as Vice President of School and Community Partnerships Division, Chief Officer of Student Financial Services, the Senior Director of Advancement and Assistant to the President. Dr. Cheek is also a peer reviewer for the Higher Learning Commission (HLC). She holds a bachelor’s degree from Tennessee State University, a master’s from the University of Dayton, and a doctorate from the University of Texas at Austin.

Dr. Cheek decided to explore AFIT membership at the encouragement of CampusWorks Portfolio Director Dr. Kevin David, who serves as the company’s AFIT Rep, and CampusWorks CEO Liz Murphy, a longtime AFIT member. Dr. Cheek and the St. Cloud team attended AFIT’s 2021 Summer Institute as guests, which introduced them to our team learning model and world-class learning partners. After attending the September CEO Networking Session, Dr. Cheek decided to apply for membership.

“We pursued the development of our new strategic plan amidst the challenges of a national pandemic and racial unrest. The stark reality of perpetual disparities in student outcomes and the longstanding systems of marginalization and oppression that foster those disparities were glaring and impossible to ignore”, said Dr. Cheek.  She further noted, “With this as the backdrop, we seized the opportunity to center antiracism and universal inclusion as indelible parts of our institutional identity and embedded these concepts within the framework of our new 5-year strategic plan, entitled SCTCC Next.  We are committed to institutional transformation from the inside out – and the convergence of networking, strategic dialogue and executive learning around this topic afforded by AFIT is an optimal and timely match for us. My team and I look forward to the new light this membership will shine on our institution’s path forward.”

AFIT is excited to be part of SCTCC's journey. We welcome Annesa, Avis, and the entire St. Cloud team to our alliance!
