Agenda:

  • Welcome
  • Experiment 1: Using AI to Support Learning the Scientific Method
Professor Nathan Cline, a biology professor at Eastern Arizona College, will walk through how he uses prompting exercises in generative AI platforms to help students learn the scientific method in a more accessible manner. As he presents, please think about the following questions to help him improve his experiment:
    • What are some ideas to mitigate unanticipated feedback provided by generative AI through this prompting exercise?
    • How do we include AI in more activities to enhance the learning process across all programs?
  • Experiment 2: Fostering a Culture of Experimentation
Heidi Catlin, Director of Learning Technology Services at the University of Wisconsin - Stout, will provide an overview of AI-driven initiatives including the hiring of an AI Integration Technologist, and a variety of faculty-driven experiments using AI. We will hear more about their projects from Emily Laird, the AI Integration Technologist, and Dr. Keith Wojciechowski, Professor of Applied Mathematics and AI Fellow Cohort Lead. As we listen, please ruminate on these questions to help them advance their work:
    • How are you managing the pace of change within the constraints of your organization?
    • What specific challenges have you faced in integrating AI tools into your academic and administrative systems, and how have you addressed them?
    • Has your institution navigated any concerns around AI tools including misuse or students' refusal to use these tools?
  • Experiment 3: AI-Driven Fraud Protection Tool
Lee Lambert of Foothill-DeAnza Community College District and Reetika Dhawan of Arizona Western College will present on an AI fraud detection tool they've developed to address the rising challenge of phantom students registering for classes and attaining financial aid packages when no students are actually attending classes. As they're sharing the tool, please consider these questions to provide valuable feedback on their platform.
    • How can AI-driven fraud detection systems be integrated into our existing admissions, financial aid, and registration processes to better prepare educational institutions from the current threats from hackers, bots, and identity thieves?
    • What are the key AI/ML technologies used in fraud detection, and how can we provide hands-on experience with these tools to students pursuing careers in cybersecurity or data science?
    • In what ways can we collaborate with industry partners to develop internship opportunities for students to gain practical experience in AI-powered recommendation systems?
  • Sponsor Message with Mark McNasby, CEO of Ivy.ai
  • Closing Remarks
